The buzz of witnessing history filled the Powerade Centre in Mississauga Ontario. Four men had earned the right to compete for the top prize in the under 225 pound division. Each competitor brought their own unique style and experience to the event – leaving the onlookers excited about some of the possibilities that could transpire.
Also, the SLAMJAM Champion; Johnny Dreamer was set to put his championship on the line against Marcus Smith. A quick highlight package of their budding rivalry was shown on the big screen. The fans popped when Dreamer realized that he was flash pinned by the second generation wrestler in record time. Seething, and looking for revenge, we watched as Dreamer accepted a championship match with hopes of settling the score.
Jon Smith stood in the middle of the ring with the Cruiserweight Championship in his hands. Smith said that each of the semi-finalists would be fantastic representation of this championship, and what it would mean to have the ability to travel the globe – headlining events. Smith praised Dan Patterson for agreeing to put his championship on the line as a ‘fighting champion’ and said that for that – he would always have respect for his desire to prove himself. Eventually Jon excused himself, and implored the fans to use their voices as their way of being a factor in tonight’s event.

Semi Final
20 Minute Time Limit
Dan Patterson © [A*P] vs. Eric Dane Jr. [NPW]
--
The opening match of the evening encompassed everything that the Cruiserweight Division is all about. Two men who were looking to test themselves, whilst having a respectable competitive match. Although the bloodline of EDJ would suggest otherwise, he’s been carrying himself as a professional throughout his stint in NPW – and seems to have acquired a strong fanbase along the way.
Patterson was the more experienced wrestler in the bout, and he used a slower pace to keep EDJ guessing – and to keep the match under his control. Much to Patterson’s surprise, the fans seemed to be rooting for the underdog in the contest – and they would voice their approval for whenever EDJ was able to turn the tide in his favor. A multitude of near-falls took place around the twelve minute mark, leaving the fans exhausted on the edge of their seats.
Dan Patterson thought he had the match one after catching EDJ mid-air and spiking him with a powerbomb – but he only received a 2.9 count. A second powerbomb attempt allowed an exhausted EDJ to slip out the back door, and catch Dan Patterson with a sunset flip and somehow hold him down for the three count!
Winner and advancing to the finals - Eric Dane Jr. (13:44)

Semi Final
20 Minute Time Limit
Tyrone Walker [FA] vs. Jay Stevens [SLAMJAM]
--
With all sorts of history and backstory playing into this much anticipated match – the wrestling world as at a standstill, as curiosity as to how this match would shake out dominated the past week as we lead into the event. Jay Stevens was standing across the ring from the man who was named his ‘godfather’. While Stevens might’ve picked up some of Walker’s style based on the time they had spent together training, it was doubtful that surly veteran like Tyrone Walker would’ve given the young lion the entire manuscript.
The match itself was hotly contested – with Stevens putting forth a tremendous effort. He was able to keep Walker on his toes. Ty even nodded his head in respect to Stevens, knowing just how much this match could mean to his career. There would be no catering to their relationship, as Tyrone Walker knew that this was the opportunity that he always craved. While best known as a tag team expert – Walker would love nothing more than to tick the box of a singles champion with visions of taking the championship to the very top.
The finish came around the ten minute mark, when Walker was able to reverse an irish whip from Stevens, to which he was able to execute a perfect hurricanrana pin, where he was able to hold his God Son’s shoulders down to the mat for the three count.
After the match was over, Walker extended his hand to Stevens, and told him that he had nothing to be ashamed of in regards to his performance. Walker showed big time support, and exited the ring first – allowing Stevens to take a few moments in the ring along – where the fans saluted his efforts in the tournament.

SLAMJAM World Championship
30 Minute Time Limit
Johnny Dreamer © vs. Marcus Smith
--
The fans were all over Johnny Dreamer from the outset, and he seemed to enjoy it. Any bit of offense he was able to muster was met with an enormous amount of boos from the crowd. Any offence that Marcus Smith was able to land – you would’ve thought the Raptors had just won their second consecutive NBA Championship – Johnny had that level of heat with the fans, it was uncanny.
The match itself played out as a much more competitive bout than the first one. Marcus had the SLAMJAM champion on the ropes at a few key moments in the match – to which JD showed resilience by always being a step ahead defensively to maneuver his way out of danger.
Marcus was pouring on the offence at the fifteen minute mark, and looked as if he was poised to become the new champion – but while he had his back turned, JD executed a low blow, which was just out of the referee’s view. As Marcus stumbled around the ring, JD popped up and executed an ACE CUTTER, to which the crowd disapproved of. The referee was in position, and counted to three – awarding the bout to the champion.

Cruiserweight Cup Finals
30 Minute Time Limit
Eric Dane Jr. [NPW] vs. Tyrone Walker [FA]
--
After these two met in the preliminary rounds – they both took to social media, where they each insisted on ‘low blowing’ the other with taunts and barbs in regards to their relationship with Eric Dane – among other things. Suffice it to say, the universe had brought these two together once again – to settle their differences.
Tyrone Walker has decades of experience on his opponent, and often taunted EDJ into losing his focus throughout the match. The fans were behind the local wrestler, whom they had hoped might be capable of ceasing the largest opportunity of his career to date at the expense of one of his father’s running mates.
Tyrone Walker is extremely talented, and the fact that he chooses to take short cuts when they are seemingly unnecessary is something that most fans won’t ever understand. Ty seemed to be enjoying ‘teaching’ EDJ a lesson, as he pounded away at the second generation grappler.
Everything was on the line in this match. The winner would be crowned NEW Champion, and would instantly be thrust into the position as one of the leaders in the NAWC. They would start to take bookings all around the globe, looking to up the prestige of the championship and etch it into the lore’s of other great championships of that ilk of yesteryear.
The fans began to slowclap, as EDJ was mounting his comeback. EDJ started to fire up, as his confidence grew. Tyrone did his best to fend off the exuberant energy of the young upstart, but it appeared as if he was surprised with the offensive capabilities of EDJ after taking a strong lashing for the better part of the contest.
EDJ was able to execute a slam – and then mounted to the top, hitting a frog splash. The arena erupted! But, Ty was able to roll his shoulder at the last minute. EDJ thought he had it, and his facial expressions shared that loud and clear.
EDJ looked to muscle Ty up for what looked like a ‘star driver’? The fans roared, as this would be such a fitting way to end the match… but Ty snuck out the backdoor and DDTed EDJ. As both men looked to regain themselves, it was Ty who front suplexed EDJ on the top turnbuckle, and then ascended to the top. Ty locked up EDJ’s head and arm – and backflipped from the top rope – executing a perfect Spanish Fly!! The referee was in position and made the count – we had a NEW Cruiserweight Champion.
Winner of the Cruiserweight Cup and NEW North American Cruiserweight Champion – Tyrone Walker (14:25)
--
Streamers fell from the rafters, as Kelly Evans rolled into the ring to check on her man. Tyrone seemed legitimately touched by the moment, as the referee handed him the North American Cruiserweight Championship! Fans were on their feet, and applauded the efforts of the man who would now represent the NAWC as the top wrestler in the division. Like him or not, Tyrone Walker showcased why he is a legend, and still one of the most dangerous men in our industry.
Also, the SLAMJAM Champion; Johnny Dreamer was set to put his championship on the line against Marcus Smith. A quick highlight package of their budding rivalry was shown on the big screen.
