In Conjunction with Northern Pro Wrestling – The North American Wrestling Council Presents: The 2nd Annual Cruiserweight Cup! LIVE from Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Jon Smith stood in the ring, and welcomed the crowd to the arena for what he promised was going to be the start of an exciting tournament. Smith reminded the crowd that the winner of this tournament would be the North American Cruiserweight Champion, and this would put an immense amount of pressure on the current champion; Dan Patterson. Smith said that the eight competitors in this tournament were worthy, but he also said there would an ode to the first annual event, by having two of the stalwarts of the Cruiserweight Division showcase their talents in the first match of the evening.

Non Tournament Match
15 Minute Time Limit
Jamal Williams [FA] vs. Irwin Collins [NPW]
--
The match got underway, and both men seemed excited to be able to showcase their skills, and also felt proud of the fact that they had left enough of an impression on the division in year 1, that they would be asked to showcase their talents on the show. Unfortunately for them, their match was cut short.
The crowd started to stir, as SLAMJAM Champion Johnny Dreamer made his way through the crowd with a steel chair in hand. Johnny proceeded to slide into the ring as if he were the third competitor in the contest, and launched the chair in the general direction of Irwin Collins. The fans were on their feet, as they were quite familiar with the foul mouthed Champion from Jacksonville. What on earth is Johnny Dreamer doing here!?
Collins turns around and caught a ‘Dream Catcher’ for his troubles! The crowd is going wild. Williams took a step toward Johnny, asking him what he was doing. Johnny hit Jamal with a kick to the gut, followed by a nasty looking DDT that spiked his skull into the mat with brute force. The referee waved off the match, deeming it a no-contest.
The referee thought it was still his duty to ask Johnny Dreamer to leave the ring. Little did he know, Johnny didn’t plan on leaving on anyone’s terms but his own. Johnny then kicked the referee in the pearls, before pie-facing him to the mat. Johnny dragged Jamal’s body on top of Collins’, and then stacked the referee on top of both of his victims. Johnny asked for a mic, and started to take shots at the fan in attendance. Sure, the crowd was excited for the chaos that Johnny was bringing, but they weren’t too happy to hear that Johnny had little to no respect for them. In typical ‘JD’ fashion, he mocked the fans for cheering for him, and assured them that he was in the NAWC to lay waste to any and everyone who stood in his way. Johnny then remarked that he planned on staying in Canada throughout the month, so he could create havoc on this tournament, and do everything in his power to besmirch any credibility that Jon Smith had hoped to create.
Johnny took his time, before throwing the live mic at the ring announcer and spitting in his general direction.

Block A Match
15 Minute Time Limit
Dan Patterson © [A*P] vs. HNDRXX [GCGC]
--
It was fitting that the currently North American Cruiserweight Champion would set the tone for the tournament, and open things with a bang. Across the ring, stood an upstart grappler from ‘GCGC’ who was looking to make a name for himself. Patterson looked to keep control of the match with a mix of technical ability, blended with some high flying moves. HNDRXX was willing to throw caution to the wind whenever he could in order to gain an advantage.
The fifteen minute time limit should continue to play heavily into the strategies of each man, as they work their way through the tournament. The idea is the strike quickly and effectively, to be able to secure the victory over a game opponent. HNDRXX took Patterson to the brink, as the final 60 second count from the time keeper was announced. Patterson was able to reverse an Irish whip before locking HNDRXX up in a small package, to which the referee was just able to sneak the three count in before HNDRXX broke free. HNDRXX showed that he is capable of hanging with the top guy in the division, and fell just short in the end.
Winner: Dan Patterson [A*P] via small package (14:32)

Jon Smith was seen looking distraught over the fact that Johnny Dreamer has gone into business for himself earlier in the evening. Jon made sure that anyone within ear shot was aware that those types of actions wouldn’t be tolerated.

Block A Match
15 Minute Time Limit
Jay Stevens [SLAMJAM] vs. Corgi Mark [FA]
--
This match marked the debuts of both men within the NAWC, but both have a strong reputation that precedes them. Corgi Mask had the fans eating out of his hands throughout the contest, as he was an absolute blitzkrieg of speed and precision. The fans watched intently, as rumor swirled that there was a connection between Jay Stevens in Team Danger. While nothing has been confirmed within the confines of the NAWC, the dirt sheets were calling Stevens the ‘darkhorse’ in this event based on some of these rumors.
The crowd was treated to a very exciting contest, but Corgi Mask eventually fell victim to a double underhook driver by Stevens, which he seemed to hit out of nowhere. The referee raised the SLAMJAM representative’s hand, while the crowd applauded the efforts of both men.
Winner: Jay Stevens [SLAMJAM] via Double Underhook Driver (9:12)

Block B Match
15 Minute Time Limit
Reed Bellam [PURE-1] vs. Eric Dane Jr. [NPW]
--
Reed Bellam was definitely the wrestler who travelled the furthest to take part in this event. On the flipside, EDJ has been calling Canada his home for the past year, and was used to the travel. This seemed to factor into the result, as EDJ looked like the much crisper, much cleaner wrestler who was chalked full of energy.
It should be noted that the fans in attendance were partial to their local talent, and urged him to succeed at every turn. What followed as an outstanding performance from ‘EDJ’ that should set the tone for this tournament. EDJ was able to execute DDT in the middle of the ring, before climbing to the top rope and launching himself half way across the ring and connecting with a Frog Splash! The referee was in position, and the three count was scored.
As the crowd applauded, EDJ seemed to locate Marcus Smith in the crowd. They pointed to one and other out of respect, as EDJ had officially secured 2 points for his efforts.
Winner: Eric Dane Jr. [NPW] via Frog Splash (11:37)

Dueling Promos were aired as Tyrone Walker and Willard Manchester were set to close Day 1 of the Cruiserweight Classic. Walker had Kelly Evans in tow, and went on a verbal tirade that could ‘talk’ just about any fan into the building.
Manchester reminded everyone of his dominance in the 1st Annual Cruiserweight Cup, along with the fact that he intended to regain his Cruiserweight Championship, and there wasn’t anything that anyone could do to stop him.

Block B Match
15 Minute Time Limit
Tyrone Walker [FA] vs. Willard Manchester [NPW]
--
This match could headline any show in the continent, and he it was, closing out day one of the CWC. Tyrone Walker’s return to the spotlight brought forth a lot of fanfare. Regardless if you agree with Walker’s antics, he’s certainly earned the respect of the fans throughout his career. Manchester on the other hand, seemed to salivating at the opportunity to prove his worth in this contest. In his mind, this part of the tournament was a forgone conclusion- and something that he was being forced to do in order to reclaim his championship. There was also that territorial side to this contest, where Manchester wasn’t willing to allow a legend like Tyrone Walker to have a platform to get over at his expense.
The match was high impact, and highly strategic. Both men took turns being in control, and dictating the pace. Manchester is known for his submission, and seemed willing to battle it out on the ground with Walker, eventhough he’s no slouch there in his own right.
Both men gave it their absolute best effort. Much like earlier in the night, the time keeper had to warn both wrestlers that there was only 1 minute left in the contest. This was when Walker seemed to be start pouring it on. It was as if he had found his second wind, and felt like he might’ve taken Manchester’s best shot and avoided defeat. Walker hit a sequence of patented moves, and looked to be going for the finish. Manchester found his wits, and took Walker down to the mat, and held him there. The crowd showed displeasure with this strategy, but Manchester was un survival mode. The time keeper rang the bell, signifying that this match had ended in a draw – much to the chagrin of the fans, as well as Tyrone Walker. As soon as the decision was final, Manchester slid out of the ring and headed back up the aisle pointing to his temple – so showcase how intelligent he is.
Walker was left in the middle of the ring with his hands on his hips. Walker was clearly disappointed that there wasn’t a clean finish, and vowed to turn it up a notch going forward. The fans were on their feet, and seemed to leave the arena satisfied.
