The following event took place at the Civic Centre in Bloomington, IN on March 25th, 2019
--
Co-Owner of the MPW territory; Jon Smith made his way to ringside to a hero’s welcome from the crowd. Bloomington, IN is his hometown, and we’re sure that Jon feels a strong sense of pride to be hosting a wrestling event in front of ‘his people’. Jon has taken more of an off camera roll since he started running Midwestern Pro – so even though this is his hometown, we’re a little surprised to see him in the middle of the ring.
Jon welcomed the crowd, but then got right down to business. Jon was very poignant in his approach, and told whoever was listening that he was ‘Very Upset’ with Matthew Saunders’ decision to have the NAWC North American Championship defended in somebody else’s backyard. Jon knew the levity of the situation, and explained that Saunders shouldn’t be worried about ‘helping’ a territory in its dying days, like House of Strong Style. Instead, Saunders should be elevating the territories from within.
Jon complimented Saunders on being an astute business man, who parlayed his wrestling wages, into a mini conglomerate of real estate all over Canada. So his decision to take money out of Jon and Parker’s pocket was very puzzling. Oxford Osland and Brinley Bishop are both signed to MPW – and thus, their North American Championship match should’ve taken place, right here in the Midwest. The crowd started to cheer, as they seemed to also feel slighted by Saunders’ decision.
Jon argued that Matthew Saunders should worry less about recruitment, and focus on cultivating the talent and regions he already has. Jon felt strongly enough to take Saunders to task on this, that he encouraged him to show up at the next MPW show, to give his side of the story.
Since Brinley Bishop was currently unavailable for competition – being as though he’s preparing for his match in the Deep South – Smith declared that he would find Logan Peters another challenger tonight. Jon closed with one last pot shot – encouraging the fans to take a look at what was ‘really’ going on around them. The Brinley Bishop/Oxford Osland feud ‘payoff’ had been snatched away from them to carry forward only one man’s agenda – Matthew Saunders.
Result: Reggie Taylor defeated Santiago Ortega via School Boy with help from Jamal Williams (9:13)
Reaction: After producing mediocre results in the Cruiserweight Cup, Santiago Ortega found himself in Midwestern Pro looking to find stable footing. What he found was a brutal beatdown at the hands of Manuel Mayorga, who has steamrolled the two opponents he’s wrestled thus far in MPW. Tonight, Ortega had to fend of both members of ‘Spin Cycle’, as Jamal Williams did his best to distract the referee, and even insert himself into the contest when he could. Ortega looked extreme polished, and had the crowd cheering as he executed multiple high-risk moves to score a couple of near falls on Taylor.
Jamal Williams would trip Ortega as he was crossing the ropes, allowing Taylor to roll him up with a handful of tights, to secure the victory. The crowd was livid – but the action didn’t stop there. Williams entered the ring, and the duo executed a high/low striking attack to really show dominance over Ortega.
Much to the surprise of the fans, Manuel Mayorga made his way to the ring, locking eyes with both Taylor and Williams. As Mayorga entered, the members of Spin Cycle scattered. The crowd watched, as they seemed confused as to why Mayorga would break up the 2 on 1 attack. Spin Cycle watched as Ortega slowly got to his feet, looking around confused. Once Ortega realized Mayorga was in the ring with him, he reached out to ‘thank him’ – but instead Mayorga wound up and slapped Ortega across the face, bringing him down to one knee. Mayorga looked disgusted, as he exited the ring, leaving Ortega confused and in-pain.
Result: Aaron Vasquez defeats Logan Peters via Running Death Valley Driver (2:21)
Reaction: Once the crowd realized they were going to see Aaron Vasquez debut, they popped. Vasquez rushed the ring, and started swinging. It didn’t take long for Vasquez to overwhelm the bigger man, and essentially squash him.
Vasquez put Peters up on the shoulders, and dropped him head first with a nasty DVD, and secured the pinfall.
After the match, Vasquez got on the mic, and said ‘he’s open for business’. If anyone is looking for a ‘hired gun’ he’s taking applications. He trimmed the fat from the QB:K9’s, and is now loyal only to himself. Vasquez assured the crowd that this was just the beginning, and they should expect to see a lot more of him going forward.
Result: The Hawaiian Hitmen retain the Midwest Tag Team Championships when Crossfire Pins Slater via Samon Drop (14:54)
Reaction: The Evanston Express come highly touted by Parker Smith, and have made allies with Brinley Bishop over their common enemies. The duo has been impressive thus far, and earned this opportunity. Due to the fact that International Influence closed – The Hawaiian Hitmen brought their tag team championships with them, as they had already defended and defeated some of the top teams in the NAWC. This would be a true test for the challengers, as Crossfire and Buckshot have been on an absolute roll.
The match itself was hard hitting, and the Evanston Express held their own for the better part of the contest, before finally succumbing to the champions. Crossfire would isolate David Slater long enough to execute his patented Samoan Drop. His 260lb frame drove his opponent to the canvas with brute force, allowing the duo to retain their championships once again.
After the match, Crossfire who is usually a man of few words – encouraged the ‘unknown entity’ to face them man to man. Don’t wait until we’re exhausted, don’t come at us from behind – meet us head on.
The crowd looked towards the aisle, but it wasn’t to be. Instead, the Midwest Tag Team Champions each climbed to the second rope, and showed off their championship gold.
