The following card took place at the Mississauga Convention Centre on February 19th, 2019
--
Matthew Saunders stood in the middle of the ring with a mic in hand. To his left, veteran promoter and wrestling trainer – Gus Arnold. Saunders got right to brass tacks, and made his announcement. From this point forward, Gus Arnold would be in control of the territory from Ontario, as far east as Prince Edward island. The crowd clapped, but also looked confused. Saunders spoke about his vision for the NAWC, and reiterated that they were in a very crucial period of expansion. As such, Saunders would be dissolving International Influence. Saunders would spend more time working with Gus, Jeff Andrews, Jose Ricardo Munoz, Jon and Parker Smith – to build their vision in collaboration.
Saunders said that the International Influence roster would be moved to either Midwestern Pro Wrestling, or Northern Pro Wrestling. Saunders said that the International Stars from Japan and the UK would continue their careers in Northern Pro Wrestling. Saunders talked about the sacrifices these men had made to gain residency in Canada through a work visa, and wasn't going to alter their progress in this great country. Gus has already started reaching out to the talent, to build rapport, and to ensure they can work together going forward.
The Current II Open Weight Tag Team Champions – The Hawaiian Hitmen have had their contracts purchase by Jon and Parker of Midwestern Pro. Saunders said that the three of them worked out a ‘fair’ agreement and that the Open Weight Championships would move over to Midwestern Pro, and be rebranded as the Midwest Tag Team Championships. Their victory and title defenses would be acknowledged as part of the agreement. Along with the Hitmen, Aaron Vasquez, Santiago Ortega – and newcomer Edward Baker would also be moving over to the MPW roster. Saunders mentioned that Crossfire and Vasquez were still both suffering from Injuries suffered at the hands of that ‘Unknown Entity’ that attacked them at the conclusion of the II Supershow.
Saunders handed the mic over to Gus, and Saunders exited the ring, slapping hands and bowing to the fans as a sign of respect for their love and support.
Gus started out by talking about the expansion of the Northern Pro roster, and how tonight would serve as NPW’s first show in Mississauga, ON. Gus spoke about how the Canadian Heritage championship landscape would start to take shape in the near future – as they were excited to crown their first champion. Gus touched on the current excursion that Kenneth Marshall and Alec Kirkland were on in the House of Strong Style Promotion – which is run by longtime friend Lars Hagen. Gus admits that both men had originally played heavily into his plans – but was now forced to look at other options – as their lack of availability was starting to become more challenging.
It was here that Eric Dane Jr. made his way towards the ring, cutting Gus off mid-sentence. The brash young wrestler reminded Gus that he had agreed to take him and immerse him into the roster in Northern Pro wrestling during the Strong Style Summit. Gus’ body language showed a clear disdain for the young athlete – but decided to let him continue his rant. Junior told Gus not to worry – and that by adding him, while subtracting Marshall and Kirkland was actually a major victory for Gus, the fans and the NAWC as a whole.
Since tonight seemed to be all about the changing of the guard, what better time to allow himself –Eric Dane Jr. the opportunity to be in the main event against anyone who had the balls to step in front of him. Gus seemed to be holding back a mixture of laughter and anger. Gus told Junior that he wasn’t to interrupt him again. Gus told him that he was happy to see him there tonight, as one of the ring crew had called in sick, and that they could use a hand after the show taking down the ‘set.’ Dane Jr. was furious, as the crowd at a laugh at his expense. Gus turned his attention away from Dane, and encouraged the crowd to get excited for the action that was about to take place. Northern Pro Wrestling has grown, and the opportunities are endless.
Result: Scottish Strong Style defeated The Alexanders via Double DDT [13:16]
Reaction: The crowd was behind the duo from Scotland from the outset. They seemed to have earned the respect from the crowd based on their efforts against FIGHT:UK in their debut match. While some hadn’t given them a chance to succeed in that bout, they turned heads with their team work, and ability to mix it up on the drop of a dime.
The match came to an end with Calum Ross was able to knock Martin Alexander off the apron, before executing a blind tag to High Gabriel. The two Scottish Lads locked up dual front face-locks, before driving Myles head first into the mat with extreme force. The pinfall was academic at that point. After the three count – Martin entered the ring and looked to gain a measure of revenge, but his 1 on 2 attack fell flat- as Gabriel and Ross executed a double running clothesline that turned the elder brother inside out. The crowd were on their feet, and very impressed with the Scottish Duo.
Result: FIGHT:UK defeats Les Rois Francais via Cross Armbreaker Submission [5:21]
Reaction: This was certainly a one sided showcase. The team from the UK were urged on by current NAWC Cruiserweight Champion Willard Manchester to show their aggressive side in this contest. The duo isolated Ouimet from the outset of the match, and didn’t ever let Desjardins into the ring to gain any offence. The crowd were in awe of the brutal beating to which Stewart and Beesley executed. This looked like they were clearly sending a message to the strong tag team division in NPW.
Result: Eric Carslon defeats Jackson Evans via Small Package [12:38]
Reaction: Eric Carlson was already in the ring, when Jackson Evans was set to make his entrance. Evans walked out, all business. As he took a few steps forward, from behind Eric Dane Jr. scurried ahead of him. Evans looked confused and he watched as Dane Jr. was getting in the crowd’s face, and gloating about how wonderful Jackson Evans was. A couple of weeks back, it was Evans who inadvertently saved Dane Jr. from a potential beatdown at the hands of Kenneth Marshall. While we assumed Evans was looking to continue his past rivalry with Marshall and Dane was just a by-product of this – Dane seems to think that he and Evans are now allies.
Based on Evans’ reaction to Dane’s antics, he was just as surprised as anybody to see Dane leading the way, as he made his walk towards the ring. In typical clueless fashion; Dane Jr. was playing the role of Mickey to Evans’ Rocky. Dane continued to play the role of hype man, until the bell sounded and the match got underway. The match itself was very even, and both wrestlers were looking to gain momentum in their quest to become the first Canadian Heritage Champion.
The end of the match saw Eric Dane Jr. attempt to attack Carlson while the referee’s back was turned, but he accidentally struck Evans instead. As Evans tried to get his hands on Dane, he was rolled up into a small package by Carlson, and the referee counted to three. The fans erupted, as one of their favorites had his hand raised.
Jackson Evans quickly turned his attention to Dane, who was visibly terrified that his mistake was about to have severe consequences. As Evans exited the ring, he started to chase Dane Jr. around the ring. Dane high-tailed it up the ramp, with Evans in hot pursuit. Dane had just gotten to the top of the ramp, and Evans caught up to him. The crowd cheered, hoping Evans would lay the little punk out. Just before Evans could carry out his beat down – he was blindsided by the massive Tyson Brewer.
Brewer knocked Evans down from behind, and proceeded to powerbomb him on top of the stage. A shocked and bewildered Eric Dane Jr. looked on, as if frozen in fear from the fact he almost became a casualty. Tyson Brewer stood over the fallen Jackson Evans and sneered to the crowd, before raising his hand high. Brewer seemed intent on exacting revenge from his loss to Evans two weeks ago, which cost him an opportunity to become the first Canadian Heritage Champion.
Suddenly Eric Dane Jr. was the toughest guy in the arena. He started talking smack to the fallen Jackson Evans, while jumping up and down with excitement. Dane looked up at the massive Brewer, and extended his fist, hoping Brewer would return the favor. After a few awkward seconds passed, Brewer extended his hand, and ‘dapped’ Dane.
You would’ve thought ‘Junior’ had just won himself a World Title, as he started to celebrate his fortunes much to the chagrin of fans in attendance.
